What is the difference between an allergic reaction and a side effect?
I thought maybe I was having an allergic reaction to tylenol but some yahoo answers corrected me and said I maybe having a side effect to the tylenol which cause a rash look to my face. Please tell me what is the difference and what can I do over the counter until I can see a doctor please.

An allergic reaction is a specific type of reaction which involves your body’s rejection of a protein containing substance. You cannot have an allergic reaction to a non-protein substance eg codeine sulphate. An allergic reaction involves antibodies and antigens. It is the result of repeated exposure to foreign proteins.
A side effect is the undesired effect of a medication. The side effect can include an allergic response. For example the main effect of morphine is pain relief however the side effect is constipation. I hope this has helped you differentiate the two.
